Corrie viewers beg for 'more jokes' as they slate 'sombre' Carla blackmail plot

Coronation Street viewers slated tonight’s episode for being too serious and begged the ITV soap to bring back some “humour”.

Carla Connor is going through a distressing time at the moment as she’s being blackmailed and threatened with her secret past.

Tonight, Chelsea, who was blackmailing her in yesterday’s episode, was joined by another character who claimed he’d slept with Carla in return for giving her a place to stay.

Some fans slammed the episode, finding it far too upsetting as they missed Corrie’s famous funny scenes.

One said: “Come on Corrie please bring us back some humour all getting too sombre now.”

While another wrote: “There used to be a time when #corrie was a bit of escapism from the drudgery of real life, and fun to watch….. now it seems to have turned into EastEnders.”

“I just loathe all this blackmailing. They took advantage of Carla when she was at her most vulnerable. Now they’re back for more. Quite nasty,” added a third.

Coronation Street viewers have been going into a frenzy every since Carla was first blackmailed by Chelsea.

During an episode earlier this week, fans were convinced the stalker was threatening to expose Carla’s “prostitute past”.

After claiming Carla owed her £1,000 after she “flushed a grand of drugs down the toilet”, the character, called Chelsea, then riled her further with a new secret.

She also said she had something else on Carla, saying: “What you had to do to survive on the streets? You know exactly what I’m talking about.”

Tonight, as the threats for the drug money continued, viewers couldn’t bare seeing poor Carla go through such turmoil.

Another viewer tweeted: “Don’t know how I’m meant to watch Carla suffer more after everything she’s been through.”

“Poor poor Carla” said another.

While one fan wrote: “CARLA IS CRYING AND I’M GONNA BE CRYING WITH HER IN A MINUTE.”

Coronation Street continues on Friday at 7.30pm on ITV
