Emmerdale Kirin star teases sudden escape after explosive police showdown

Emmerdale’s new Kirin Kotecha star has hinted his character could make another shocking escape in upcoming scenes, after the police appear in the dales.

Ahead of his Emmerdale debut, actor Rish Shah, who is replacing Adam Fielding on the soap, reflected on Kirin’s dark motives in returning to the village.

Kirin left the dales after he killed Tess Harris (Nicola Stephenson), mowing her down in a brutal hit and run accident, and leaving his son Johnny behind to go on the run in America.

As Johnny’s mum Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) battles cancer, Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) has decided to try and adopt little Johnny – only for Kirin to throw a spanner in the works.

Upcoming scenes will see Priya Kotecha (Fiona Wade) and Charity discussing the adoption outdoors, only for a mysterious figure to loom in the background.

He eventually reveals himself as Kirin, and orders Charity to give him money in exchange for his permission to adopt little Johnny.

However, his plan backfires when squad cars appear on the scene after Tracy Metcalfe (Amy Walsh) tries to get him arrested.

Teasing his character’s escape, Rish said Kirin feels “anger towards Charity who he believes betrayed him” and “frustration at himself for trusting her”.

Can Charity outwit Kirin, or will he get the better of her?

He added: “I think it all happens so quickly so his immediate thought, without being able to process those emotions, is just scanning to find a quick exit route to try and escape.”

Rish also suggested Kirin tries to make Charity’s plans for adoption a living hell, only for the Dingle matriarch to get the upper hand.

He said: “I feel like her love for Johnny and Vanessa outweighs her frustration for Kirin, so she’s able to keep a cool head throughout the whole ordeal, for the most part.

“There are moments of frustration in which you see how capable and fierce she is.”

He added: “I don’t think he anticipates it to go as south as quickly as it does. I don’t want to ruin it for anyone so I’ll probably leave it at that.”

Rish also urged viewers against trusting Kirin’s motives, as he comes back to the village on the hunt for fast cash, doing everything in his power to get his hands on some money.

He said: “Personally, I think that everything Kirin says has to be taken with a pinch of salt.

“Whilst he acts as though he’s truly willing to give up his involvement in exchange for the money, I reckon he would constantly find a way to leverage Charity’s vulnerability in the situation.”

Kirin will stop at nothing to get his own way, often resorting to manipulation

Rish went on: “Kirin really reveals his true colours in the moment where he finds out Charity wants to adopt him and he shows his frustration and disbelief.

“The thought of her playing dad really annoys him so he’s definitely selfish and patronising at that point. I feel like he definitely underestimates Charity – she’s driven to do whatever she has to do.”

Can Charity get what she wants from Kirin, or will he find a way to cause more trouble?

Emmerdale airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7pm on ITV.
