Emmerdale staff 'p***ed off' at special treatment for stars as filming restarts

Emmerdale staff hit out at ITV bosses after they learned soap crew like Mimi Slinger and Karen Blick would get covid temperature checks – but they would be snubbed from the tests.

Journalists, office and tech staff revolted after John Whiston, head of ITV in the North, emailed staff to let them know about the plans,

John wrote it “won’t necessarily be the same for everyone”.

But insiders claim Mr Whiston was forced to offer temperature testing for all after he was hit with a deluge of complaints from “p***ed off” staff.

One worker said: “People were very p***ed off. You can tell who the golden folk are.

“We just have to doff our caps as the stars come in.

“It’s daft. They all still have to use the same door handles as us to get in the building – but if we’ve got it, tough.”

Insiders say that after staff raised “heated” objections, Mr Whiston sent out a new email to staff explaining all staff would now get the tests.

The email read: “All colleagues at ITV Yorkshire can have their temperatures checked as they enter the building.”

A source added: “We have only started back in production this week and are constantly assessing how all our controls are working.

“ITV has extended the facility to anyone else who shares the site with Emmerdale and who wishes to be temperature checked.”

Last week it was revealed that Emmerdale has already returned to filming, bringing their temporary lockdown suspension to an end.

This Morning hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield announced that six lockdown-themed episodes are already in the works.

Soap expert Sharon Marshall appeared on the show, as Holly declared: “The soap has resumed filming for the viewers to film six new episodes in June.”

Footage from behind-the-scenes in the Yorkshire film set was shared, showing Cain Dingle actor Jeff Hordley in the middle of a scene.

ITV has been contacted by Daily Star Online for comment.
