Good Morning Britain enjoys highest ever ratings – despite Piers Morgan backlash

Good Morning Britain bosses will be celebrating today after it was revealed the hit ITV show received its best ever ratings on Tuesday.

The breakfast show, hosted by Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid pulled in an impressive 27% audience share – snapping at the heels of rival BBC Breakfast.

Celebrating the news with a gleeful Instagram post, Piers wrote: “BREAKING: ⁦Good Morning Britain⁩ had its highest ever ratings yesterday: 27% audience share, peaking at 32%.

“The longer the Govt boycotts us, the more people are tuning in.

“We’ll keep challenging them in their cowardly absence. Thank you for watching.”

Currently MPs and members of the government are boycotting the shot over accusations Piers doesn’t let them speak and grills them unnecessarily harshly.

Over the past few weeks Good Morning Britain and Piers himself have been hit with hundreds of Ofcom complaints.

After a short break, the former newspaper editor returned to the small screen – letting rip about Boris Johnson’s top aid Dominic Cummings refusing to step-down after being caught breaking lockdown.

Ever one to ruffle feathers, Piers let rip at Cummings branding him a liar for the reasons he gave for his 250-mile trip from London to Durham and a short drive to a beauty spot to ‘test his eyesight’.

The show picked up a further 76 complaints to Ofcom.

Reports claim in total there have been 4,000 complaints.

Piers recently revealed he has been snapped up by ITV until the end of 2021.

The dad-of-five told The Sun’s TV mag: “I’ve just signed a new contract up for GMB until the end of next year.

“I love working with Susanna and the team – we’re a Ying Yang that works.

“If my style upsets people, don’t watch! Watch something else. Nobody’s forcing anyone to watch it.

“You’ve got a remote control in your hand, I really don’t understand what the problem is.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am
