Graham Norton lands movie role alongside Hollywood star Will Ferrell

Graham Norton has landed a prime role in Will Ferrell’s movie Eurovision – but he won’t require acting classes.

The Netflix comedy is about two Icelandic singers Lars Erickssong and Sigrit Ericksdottir (Ferrell and Rachel McAdams) who are given the chance to represent their country.

And Norton, 57, will be a Eurovision commentator delivering camp and cutting banter about the acts – in other words, himself.

Will said of his film: “Given the spectacle, the campness and the intoxicating music in Eurovision I always thought ‘Someone is gonna make a movie about this” and no-one ever has. So we got the ball rolling to make one.”

The BBC star is not the only famous face in the film as some rather well known Eurovision faces pop up too.

Swedish champs ABBA will feature but as a flashback clip of them performing Waterloo in Brighton back in 1974.

However, Austria’s Conchita Wurst, Israel’s Netta, Norway’s Alexander Rybak and Sweden’s Loreen do appear.

The film – out next month – also stars James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan as Will Ferrell’s dad and Downton Abbey hunk Dan Stevens is one of the singers in the competition.

Graham bagging his perfect acting gig comes just after the Eurovision competition was forced to be postponed due to the current coronavirus pandemic.

The funnyman recently fronted Come Together – a tribute show which aired during the time Eurovision should have been screened.

Swedish music phenomenon ABBA took home the top spot after their entry with Waterloo was crowned the world’s favourite Eurovision entry.

Viewers chose the hit single as their favourite over 18 other entries.

The four-piece claimed the top spot in 1974, but the UK famously failed to vote for the song.
