Hollyoaks Josh Ashworth star Sonny Flood is unrecognisable after quitting acting

Hollyoaks star Sonny Flood looks completely different from the troublemaking teen he played on the Channel 4 soap a decade ago.

The 30-year-old rose to fame as Josh Ashworth on the show, only to leave acting behind to make a dramatic career change, becoming a lawyer instead.

After leaving the soap, the actor reportedly went to university and re-trained as a lawyer, eventually landing a job at a commercial solicitor’s firm in Manchester.

Now, he is a high-flyer working in family law, having earned a position as a barrister for a successful firm in Lancashire.

According to the legal firm’s website, Sonny has “recently welcomed a baby boy,” and balances a happy family life on top of his acclaimed law career.

The website, which was first discovered by The Sun, adds: “Sonny prides himself on his client care and his ability to build a strong working relationship with clients when dealing with sensitive subject material.

“In care proceedings, Sonny has experience of dealing with clients where issues of capacity have been raised and expert instruction has been sought and challenged; he has also gained experience dealing with ground rules hearings and the appointment of intermediaries.”

The former actor has swapped careers, becoming a high-flying lawyer

Hollyoaks fans will struggle to recognise the former actor, as he has ditched his usual costume of T-shirts and jeans for a swish suit and tie in recent years.

Josh joined the cast of Hollyoaks in 2005, and was caught up in a number of major scandals and dodgy dealings over the years.

He exited the village in dramatic scenes in 2010, leaving after he was arrested for his involvement in a brutal car accident, having driven under the influence.

Sonny’s real-life persona is completely different to his character on the soap

Josh later moved to Spain with Neville and Suzanne, and despite a brief appearance in 2012, his character has been missing from the soap ever since.

Speaking about his career change in a 2016 interview with Legal Cheek, Sonny said: “Acting gives you the skills you need to walk into a room full of strangers and put on a confident persona.

“It also gives you drive and determination, and helps you understand the uncertain and gruelling nature of self-employment.”
