Hollyoaks kill off Rachel Adedeji character Lisa Loveday in murder bombshell

Hollyoaks have killed off Rachel Adedeji’s character on the soap, Lisa Loveday, after the actress quit the show in a racism row.

Rachel quit the show back in June after four years amid accusing the show of “behind the scenes racism’.

Hollyoaks’ horrific wedding day murder victim was revealed to be Lisa Loveday on the show tonight.

Fans watched in horror as Toby battered her to death with a cane, thinking she was Mitchell.

Viewers had been left guessing who the victim was.

During Scott and Mitchell’s wedding, Mitchell Devereux had fallen out with his brother Toby Faroe.

Mitchell then went to lie down under a sheet in the hotel room to calm down, while Toby was seen entering a room wielding a cane.

He furiously smashed it over a lump under a sheet in a bed.

But fans previously didn’t see the reaction of the person underneath if there was one.

Many were convinced it was Mitchell but others thought it was Lisa.

Toby collapsed as he ran out of the hotel room and Celeste ran over to him, asking him what had happened, as he sobbed “I’m so sorry”.

Celeste then walked into the hotel room and lifted up the covers of the bed as she gasped in horror.

“The blood, the body, what do we do?” she asked Toby.

Celeste cleaned Toby’s prints off the room and the weapon, but Mitchell’s friends were knocking on the door looking for him.

The pair rolled up the body and lifted it up – and then it was dramatically revealed that Mitchell was safe as he appeared and chatted to Scott.

That meant Toby had mistakenly killed Lisa, Toby’s own cousin, who was revealed to have been having a lie down in the couple’s room.

Rachel branded the soap’s statement to the Black Lives Matter movement as “disappointing”.

In a statement shared over Twitter, the 28-year-old slammed Hollyoaks’ “not progressive” response, and felt the programme’s remarks were “performative and disingenuous”.

She began: “I am disappointed with Hollyoaks’ approach with showing solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement yesterday.

“Did black lives matter when I was told ‘you’re all the same’ via a makeup artist you employed and remains in employment to this day?

“Did Black Lives Matter when a number of female black actors were forced to drastically change their hair, because if not, the viewers ‘would not be able to tell them apart?’

A Hollyoaks spokeswoman told The Sun: “Rachel made the decision to leave Hollyoaks to pursue other opportunities earlier last year which saddened us at Hollyoaks as she is one of the leading cast members in the show.

“However, the notice period did allow the writers time to give Lisa Loveday an extremely gripping exit storyline.

“Viewers will see this story play out later this year as her final scenes were filmed shortly before lockdown.”

“It had always been our intention for Rachel to leave the show after a period of time.”

“She loved her time on Hollyoaks and the exit storyline was openly discussed with the producers and her together, in a collaborative format.”

Hollyoaks bosses reportedly held one-on-one-talks with cast members after Rachel spoke about her experiences of racism while working on the Channel 4 soap, according to Digital Spy.

Hollyoaks airs weekdays on Channel 4 at 6:30pm, with the First Look episode on E4 at 7pm
