Jeremy Clarkson 'terrified' of doing more than 25mph in his new Lamborghini

Jeremy Clarkson is “terrified” of doing more than 25mph in his new Lamborghini after pranging it 10 times – because it is a tractor.

The TV motoring guru-turned-farmer splashed out £40,000 on the second-hand, nine-tonne monster to help him tackle his 1,000 acres.

He was so keen to get his hands on the vehicle – which boasts 48 gears and 188 buttons – he did not check to see if it would fit on his farm.

Clarkson has had to build a new barn because it was too big for the old one. And he has constructed a new driveway as it was too wide to go through his old front gate.

The petrolhead described his new toy as the offspring of a love affair between a Lamborghini Aventador sports car and a spaceship.

The 6ft 5in presenter said: “It’s huge. Even the front tyres are taller than me. If an Aventador were to make love to a spaceship this is what you’d end up with.

“Every single farmer type who’s seen it says the same thing: ‘That is too big.’ But in my mind tractors are like penises. They cannot be too big.’’

Clarkson, 60, said he particularly admired the “almighty roar from the vertical smokestack, which is a full seven inches in diameter”.

But he admits he struggles to handle it or attach any machinery, which is “immediately ripped to shreds”.

He added: “I’ve never been terrified at 25mph before, but in that tractor I really was. Since then I’ve always driven it very slowly – into six gates, a hedge, a telegraph pole, another tractor and a shipping container.

“I think I’m right in saying I have not completed a single job without at least one crash.’’

Clarkson bought his Oxfordshire farm in 2008 and after failing to make a profit named it Diddly Squat.

Last year, he took over day-to-day running when a manager retired.

Ferruccio Lamborghini started as a tractor-maker in Italy in 1948 and began making sports cars only to avenge a snub by Enzo Ferrari.
