John Travolta's wife Kelly Preston has died following a breast cancer battle

John Travolta’s wife, Kelly Preston, has died aged 57.

Kelly starred in films such as Jerry Maguire and also alongside her husband in Gotti.

The actress passed away following a two year battle with breast cancer.

Kelly is survived by her husband John and their children, daughter Ella, 20, and their nine-year-old son, Benjamin.

Their son Jett, passed away aged 16 in January 2009.

Speaking to People Magazine, a spokesperson for the family confirmed the heartbreaking news: “On the morning of July 12, 2020, Kelly Preston, adored wife and mother, passed away following a two-year battle with breast cancer,”

“Choosing to keep her fight private, she had been undergoing medical treatment for some time, supported by her closest family and friends,”

“She was a bright, beautiful and loving soul who cared deeply about others and who brought life to everything she touched. Her family asks for your understanding of their need for privacy at this time.”

Grease actress, John has also paid tribute to his late wife saying: “She fought a courageous fight with the love and support of so many.

“My family and I will forever be grateful to her doctors and nurses at MD Anderson Cancer Center, all the medical centres that have helped, as well as her many friends and loved ones who have been by her side.”

He went on to say: ” will be taking some time to be there for my children who have lost their mother, so forgive me in advance if you don’t hear from us for a while. But please know that I will feel your outpouring of love in the weeks and months ahead as we heal.”

John proposed to his wife on New Year’s Eve in 1991 while at the Palace Hotel in Gstaad, Switzerland with a six-carat yellow and white diamond ring.

At the time of their wedding in September 1991, Kelly was pregnant with their son, Jett.

Fans have since flocked to Twitter to pay their respects to the actress, with one saying: “This breaks my heart. RIP Kelly Preston, you will be missed.”

While a second added: “So sad! Kelly Preston starred in my all-time favourite movie, For Love Of The Game. Turning it on now to fall asleep. Prayers to her family.”

A third went on to say: “I can’t believe Kelly Preston passed away. I loved her acting.”
