Kate Garraway argues people need to be told bad news in heated GMB debate

Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway stated on the show today that people need to be told bad news in a heated debate.

Kate and co-star Alex Beresford were on presenting duty this morning, and the pair were joined on the show by comedian Ruby Wax and broadcaster Nina Myskow for a debate about news reporting.

Ruby, 67, stated that people need to be told more good news, while broadcaster Nina, 74, argued that no one is forced to watch the news.

Host Kate offered her own opinion on the topic during the heated debate.

The former I’m A Celebrity contestant argued people need to be told bad news.

Discussing news reporting during the coronavirus pandemic, mental health advocate Ruby said: “It’s a loop tape of terror and we have to stay calmly.

“If people are terrified they don’t think straight.

“Community makes the fear levels leaves go down, then we can think clearly.”

Kate responded: “But the community also has to get this information.

Weather presenter Alex Beresford joined Kate on GMB this morning

“We’ve got a story this morning that we may be going into lockdown.

“Matt Hancock has said it’s not off the table so do we not report that because it might not happen?”

she added: “For many people that would be worrying for their businesses, family life or for their health.

“You can’t stop people being frightened of a situating hat is frightful.”

Kate’s co-star pointed out: “I think Ruby means there should be a balance.”

Ruby replied: “Yeah balance thats all what I want.”

Viewers at home were left divided over the debate

Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: “Both @Rubywax & @NinaMyskow talking good sense on #GMB. We absolutely need the facts. We also need solutions to the many problems that currently confront us.”

Another added:”News is news what you supposed to do hide bad news? If you don’t like seeing it stop watching it.”

A third posted: “I’d rather hear the facts, no matter how grim. I’m responsible for my own positivity and state of mind.”

While a fourth said: “Is there too much bad news? It is what it is in this current climate – I’d settle for the facts and the truth please. Not opinions and rhetoric.”

Kate’s comments regarding “frightening news” come as her husband Derek Draper continues to battle for his life after contracting coronavirus.

Derek, 53, was rushed to hospital and put into a medically induced coma in March.

Whilst Derek is now virus free, and has been taken out of the coma, he is lying in a minimum state of consciousness, meaning he can’t walk or talk.
