Kate Garraway joins clap for carers as Derek Draper continues 'hard fight'

Kate Garraway once again took to the streets for the weekly clap for carers as her husband Derek Draper continues to fight the coronavirus while remaining in a critical condition.

The Good Morning Britain co-anchor, 53, looked relaxed as she stood outside her home filming her neighbours who were taking part.

Rocking a pair of denim shorts and an oversized hoodie, the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here campmate looked in high spirits as her neighbours set off flares in support of carers.

In an emotional statement, she said: “The neighbours turned into ‘red arrows’ tonight for #clapthecarers #nhs & #keyworkers. Have taken so much comfort & inspiration from the spirit of the country,

“Derek is still with us, fighting so hard to beat this virus & every day I am awestruck by how hard every member of the NHS team is fighting to turn things around & bring him (& so many others) home to their loved ones.

“You are amazing – thank you thank you for sending love to you all in these terrible times.”

Shortly after the nationwide clap, Kate took to her Instagram page to confirm that Derek was continuing to fight the virus.

Celebrity pals instantly took to the comment section of her post, with model and television personality Lizzie Cundy commenting: “Thinking of you all so much. Sending love.”

Kate’s I’m A Celeb pal, Nadine Coyle commented four red hearts.

While one fan said: “Sending love and hope to Derek and to you every day.”

Derek, 52, was admitted to hospital on March 30th after contracting coronavirus, which has since taken over 30,000 lives in the UK.

Garraway is said to be phoning her husband on a daily basis despite him remaining on a ventilator in intensive care.

Her Good Morning Britain co-star, Ben Shephard, revealed that Kate is finding comfort in talking to her husband daily.

“She has no idea if he’s responding but it certainly gives her a sense of comfort and there is the hope that it is,” he revealed on the breakfast programme.
