Kate Garraway thanks Gordon Brown for secret help through Derek's health battle

Kate Garraway has revealed former Prime Minister Gordon Brown has been secretly helping her with her husband Derek Draper’s health battle.

The ITV presenter was seen thanking the politician live on Good Morning Britain on Friday (September 11).

Kate’s husband Derek, 53, was rushed to hospital back in March after suffering from coronavirus. Although he is now free of the virus, he still is battling for his life in hospital.

During an interview on the show, Gordon Brown sent his best wishes to Kate.

However, Ben Shephard’s co-star Kate also thanked him back.

Kate, 53, said: “You mentioned Derek and one of the things I’ve learnt, and I want to say to you publicly, if you’re always very private about the personal good things you do and very public about the issues.”

She then added: “Personally, you’ve been very kind to me and probably one of the most helpful practically, actually, apart from all of the incredible teams that have been working on [Derek] from the NHS.

“But you’ve been amazingly helpful from that.”

Kate said on Friday’s show she was planning to visit Derek that day after being unable to visit him on their wedding anniversary yesterday.

She admitted she was heartbroken she wasn’t able to see her husband on their anniversary.

However, she said she was planning to read him all of the cards he had written to her over the years as she did get to see him.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am
