Kelvin Fletcher's emotional Emmerdale return gives star goosebumps

Kelvin Fletcher admitted to experiencing goosebumps as he returned to the Emmerdale set for the first time in years.

The Strictly champ, who left the ITV soap in 2016, said it was a “surreal” experience to return to the set.

But he dashed fans hopes as he told his character Andy Sugden wouldn’t be returning to the soap – rather he was doing some filming for ITV.

“Look where I am!” the 36 year old enthused, “Oh, it’s been years since I was here!”

He added: “Before you all get excited, sadly it’s not a return to Emmerdale, I’m just doing some filming for ITV.

“Either way, I’ve still got goosebumps.”

Kelvin recently treated fans to a hefty dose of nostalgia with a throwback to 1999’s Soap Awards – where he scooped up a prize aged just 15.

“No child awards category back then,” he recalled, “I was a 15 year old actor up against the adults and people I had long admired and inspired to follow.

“To be in the same room was humbling, let alone receiving such recognition.”

Kelvin took to the floor during last year’s Strictly, coming in as a late entry after Made In Chelsea star Jamie Laing had to sit it out due to injury.

Taking his place, Kelvin partnered up with Oti Mabuse and wowed the judges’ bench from day one – going on to lift the Glitterball Trophy.

He also managed to win the Live Tour earlier this year.

So after a hectic 2019 and a busy start to 2020, Kelvin embraced the time he got to spend with his family during lockdown.

He and wife Liz Marsland, who tied the knot in 2015, share four year old Marnie and one year old Milo.

“After an intense four or five months of regular family life being disrupted, to be at the other end of the spectrum, where I’m constantly at home, in a weird way, it couldn’t have come at a better time for me and for Liz, and for the kids,” he told Hello!

Kelvin added of Liz: “We’ve been together for many years and we’re so happy with each other, in our little bubble.”

Meanwhile, Kelvin took the plunge and succumbed to lockdown boredom – enlisting Liz to help him dye his hair a vibrant blond.

Starkly contrasting his bushy black lockdown beard, Kelvin debuted the look to Instagram acclaim.
