Phillip Schofield hasn't mentioned divorce with wife after coming out as gay

Phillip Schofield has said that he is a “work in progress” after being questioned about his marriage to wife of 27 years, Stephanie.

In February Phillip came out as gay during a live interview on This Morning, with the dad-of-two still living at home with his wife and their two daughters.

Now, the presenter has opened up about the possibility of becoming a divorced man in a podcast interview.

Phillip, 58, vehemently denies claims that he and Stephanie, 56, have discussed their separation and signed the legal documents to officially end their marriage.

Speaking on Chris Evans’ How to Wow podcast, he said: “I’m still married to Steph. There is a great deal of talk of divorce.

“We have not discussed that at all.

“With divorce, that has not been discussed. We are picking our way through and however, that works and it’s a work in progress.”

He went on to say that he had not intended on hurting people with his admission but acknowledged that it hurt his wife.

“It is not in my nature to hurt people and so I have to reconcile myself with the fact that I have done that. Indeed I have done that and I tried very hard not to.

“I also say, is it possible to come out and not hurt your wife? No of course it isn’t.

“My greatest concern is that she is ok.”

During an emotional appearance as a guest on This Morning, Phillip announced his sexuality in a statement read by his presenting partner, Holly Willoughby.

Speaking about Steph, he said: “I love her so much. She’s the kindest soul I’ve ever met.”

After claims he lied to his wife, Phillip took the opportunity to hit out at critics in his new memoirs, saying: “I didn’t know I was gay when I married Steph, if I had, I wouldn’t have got married.”
