Phillip Schofield talks Anne Robinson's on-set antics

Phillip Schofield has opened up about working with The Weakest Link legend Anne Robinson.

The This Morning host worked with Anne in 2002, when they hosted BBC series Test The Nation.

Writing in his new book Phillip Schofield: Life’s What You Make It, Phil, 58, stressed that while he liked Anne and found her fascinating her antics on set were more than a little questionable.

Revealing how she would tell members of staff she was ready for her in-ears to be set up, Phillip wrote: “When she was ready she would tilt her head to one side and impatiently cough until he had spotted his cue and stuck it in her ear.”

Phil went to reveal that when she rehearsed, there was total silence on set – unlike when he would rehearse.

Explaining how the acid-tongued host would quiz him about his earnings, Holly Willoughby’s co-star said: “She was fascinated by money.

“At the end of each show she wanted to know what I was going to buy with what I’d just earned.”

Anne was also reportedly shocked by the fact Phil had bought a property abroad without any staff to wait on his beck and call.

Explaining how he was terrified about coming out live on TV in February this year, Phil shared he had sobbed during the New Year’s Eve fireworks over the thought of another terrifying year.

Despite covering his coming out, Phil says he never intended to release a book at the time he told the world about his sexuality.

However, due to lockdown, Phil says he finally decided to put pen to paper.

Speaking in a video posted to social media, Phil said: “I have something to tell you which I am very, very excited about.

“I have finally, after being asked for many years, written my book.

“I wrote the first line when I was 14 and I knew exactly how I wanted it to start, should I ever write it, and it is in fact now the first line.

“In 2017, I wrote the first few chapters and sent it a few friends and they were like, ‘Oh my god, you have to write this’, and I knew I couldn’t and you knew why.”

The TV veteran continued: “And then my life changed and lockdown happened and I had a shed load of time on my hands. I thought, ‘Well, you’ve thought about it for long enough, you’ve written all these notes, why don’t you do it?’ and so I did. I wrote and I wrote and I loved it.”
