Police warn Katie Hopkins for breaking lockdown rules and encouraging others

Katie Hopkins has been bluntly warned by the police after she broke lockdown rules amid the coronavirus pandemic and encouraged others to do so.

The far-right 45-year-old was told off and urged to “do the right thing” by Devon and Cornwall Police on Twitter.

It came after Katie, who starred in The Apprentice, posted a bizarre video to her 1million followers, where she told her supporters to continue visiting garden centres.

While standing in a garden centre, the controversial figure urged her followers to visit garden centre despite the government’s strict rules to stay home and only go out for “essentials” during the Covid-19 pandemic.

She tweeted along with the video: “This weekend we need to Dig for Victory.

“I applaud places like #PlantsGalore for defying bureaucrats (with guaranteed salaries & big pensions) using common sense and staying open.

“Customers two metres apart. Same as supermarkets. More vital than beer & cigs”.

Katie caused fury as she argued that the owner of the garden centre was “protecting local jobs” and that it “helped” people’s mental heath to buy plants.

She continued: “I would say that keeping garden centres open is an essential thing to be doing because it helps with people’s mental health so I say let’s dig for victory and do come and support the good people at Plants Galore.”

The majority of her followers disagreed with the post and tagged local authorities in a bid to get their verdict on the matter.

Not long later, Katie’s local police force replied to her video and post: “Hi Katie.

“Over 30 people have now sadly died of COVID-19 in Devon alone and their families are now living with their tragic loss.

“Now more than ever we need everyone to work with us to encourage people to stay home, protect the NHS and save lives.

“As a member of the Devon community, do the right thing and join the community effort to protect each other.”
