Real-life Snow White model Marge Champion dies aged 101

Hollywood legend Marge Champion has died.

The real-life model for Snow White was 101 at the time of her death.

Marge died in Los Angeles on Wednesday, with her death being confirmed by dance teacher Pierre Dulaine.

The actress who went on to star alongside her husband, Gower Champion, received an Emmy Award after choreographing the 1975 hit film, Queen of The Stardust Ballroom.

Both Marge and her husband performed in musicals such as George Sidney’s 1951 revamp of Show Boat, alongside Howard Keel and Ava Gardner.

They also performed in Mr Music alongside Bing Crosby in 1950 as well as Jack Lemmon in Three for the Show back in 1955.

Born into a Hollywood family, Marge was set for stardom with her dad being none other than Hollywood ballet teacher, Ernest Belcher.

The family were friends with the groundbreaking Walt Disney who used Marge as his muse in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, with a team monitoring her movements in order to make the Disney star more authentic.

Aged just 14, she would perform for the production company just two days per month for around two years.

As well as Snow White, she danced as dwarf Doey in the film before working as a model on classic Disney films such as Pinocchio and Dumbo.

Aged 81, she made her final appearance on stage as Emily Whitman in the Broadway production of Follies.

Since the news of her death, fans have taken to social media to mourn the loss of one of Hollywood’s greatest.

“Rest in peace to the beautiful Marge Champion, a talented dancer who died at the age of 101,” tweeted one.

While a second added: “This is so saddening. RIP Marge Champion. She was a wonderful dancer.”

“RIP Marge Champion, dancer, actress and Snow White model, who died yesterday at the age of 101. She can be with husband Gower now,” said a third.

Marge is survived by her son, producer and director Gregg Champion, step-son Joey, and step-daughters, Liz, Jean and Katey Sagal.
