Spice Girl Mel C jokes band weren't victims of #MeToo as men were 'petrified'

Former Spice Girl Melanie C has claimed the band were never pestered by perverts – because men were “petrified” of them.

Sporty Spice, talking about the #MeToo movement against sexual harassment, said the group were never victims because they would have ganged up on any offender.

The 46-year-old said: “I get asked quite a lot about the MeToo movement and about that within the music industry and if I ever experience anything.

“And I’m like, ‘are you kidding me?’ No- one would come near the Spice Girls because they were petrified of us.”

She explained that the power of their girl gang, including Posh, Ginger, Baby and Scary, meant that none of them suffered at the hands of creepy predators.

The mum-of-one added: “Often with these situations, there can be vulnerable people who are targeted, which of course there are some in the Spice Girls.

“But because you knew if you messed with one of them you’d have to deal with the other four.”

However, she admitted that sexism was rife in the music industry in the 1990s.

Mel whose real name is Melanie Chisholm went on to say: “We were being told that girl bands don’t sell records. You can’t be on the front cover of magazines because girls buy records by boys.

“And we were like, ‘seriously, do not say that to the Spice Girls’.

“That’s when we started talking about girl power, and it was great because it gave us a fire in our belly.”

Daily Star Online exclusively revealed in July that the Spice Girls could be gearing up to hit the road once more, following their hugely successful Spice World 2019 tour.

A source close to Melanie Brown told us that Mel had left her position on Celebrity Juice due to a “busy year”.

They said: “Melanie has loved working with Leigh [Keith], Holly and the whole team at Celebrity Juice but next year is going to be very busy for her.”

However, it will not be without sadness as Victoria Beckham has ruled out of taking to the road with her bandmates.

A friend of the fashion designer revealed to Daily Star Online: “Victoria will always be a Spice Girl and loves the girls very much but due to other commitments would not be able to go on tour with them.”
