This Morning fans floored as Vanessa Feltz makes 'incest' dig at Eamonn Holmes

This Morning was back on our screens today with Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford on presenting duty.

The husband and wife duo have stepped in to replace Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby as the regular hosts take a break from the ITV daytime show.

Eamonn and Ruth, both 60, welcomed This Morning advice guru Vanessa Feltz onto the show today as she dished out some words of wisdom to callers.

Telly favourite Vanessa, 58, horrified viewers on Thursday’s show when she made a comment about incest.

She was discussing the issue of blended families with Eamonn and Ruth.

Vanessa Feltz shocked This Morning viewers on Thursday with her bizarre comment about incest

Eamonn asked Vanessa if the relationship between a father and a daughter was a special one, as he believed it was.

Vanessa then brought up the Elektra complex, studied by Sigmund Freud, which is theorised to be a daughter’s psychosexual competition with her mother for possession of her father.

They were chatting to a caller who complained that her partner treated her son differently to her daughter.

Eamonn asked: “Could I just say here, fathers and daughters, is there not an excuse to be made there.

“There is a different relationship, there is a special relationship?”

“Ah, well, let’s welcome Sigmund Freud to the conversation shall we, to talk about the Elektra complex!” exclaimed Vanessa.

“Yes, there is a father-daughter thing.

“But if you are trying to make a new family and you happen to be the mother of the son that isn’t being treated kindly and sweetly, I don’t know how much allowance for fathers and daughters you’re going to make.”

ITV viewers rushed to their keyboards to pass comment on Vanessa’s remark.

One shocked This Morning fan penned: “‘Let’s welcome Sigmund Freud to the programme.’ Excellent slap down by Vanessa on Eamonn.”

While another added: “The Oedipus complex? Sorry, but I draw a line at incest.”

A third posted: “Was that a dig?”

Ruth looked at her husband, who was laughing, and later told Vanessa that Eamonn was just trying to wind them up.

Eamonn and Ruth will present This Morning from Monday to Thursday until September.

The Friday edition of the show will be hosted by a host of different guests presenters including Rochelle Humes, Dermot O’Leary, Ore Oduba and Alison Hammond.

This Morning airs weekdays on ITV at 10am
