Tom Hanks shares 'feeling better' message after contracting COVID-19

Tom Hanks has shared a positive update after the Hollywood star confirmed that he had contracted the deadly coronavirus.

The Forest Gump actor, 63, has been in quarantine with his wife Rita Wilson, 63, in Australia since the couple contracted COVID-19.

Following their hospitalisation, Tom and Rita were given the opportunity to self-isolate in Queensland where they had already rented a property for the duration of their work trip.

However, two weeks after announcing that he had contracted the virus, Hanks appears to be in the clear and took to social media urging people to “shelter” in order to defeat the deadly virus which was recently declared a global pandemic.

Taking to his Twitter page, the film icon penned: “Hey, folks. Two weeks after our first symptoms and we feel better. Sheltering in place works like this: You don’t give it to anyone – You don’t get it from anyone. Common sense, no?”

He went on to say: “Going to take a while, but if we take care of each other, help where we can, and give up some comforts…this, too, shall pass. We can figure this out. Hanx.”

Tom had been in Australia to film an upcoming Elvis Presley biopic film with Baz Luhrmann, which would see him take on the role of Colonel Tom Parker – Presley’s manager.

Hanks’ diagnosis has brought filming on set to an abrupt halt but it’s believed that he is the only person on the film set to have tested positive.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has recommended that people socially distance themselves and stay two metres apart in order to tackle the virus but this doesn’t seem to be going down well with Brits who continue to flock to beaches and public parks in their hundreds.

It’s believed that around 5,683 Brits have now tested positive for coronavirus, with the death toll now hitting 281.

An estimated 1.4 million people who are part of the most “at-risk” group from COVID-19 will be ordered to stop all social contact from today.
