Wentworth's Marie star says she will be 'dangerous' in killer final season

Wentworth’s former Top Dog Marie Winter will be “dangerous” in the final season of the hit show, actress Susie Porter told us.

In the penultimate season, which recently finished airing on 5Star in the UK, Marie was at rock bottom but formed a friendship with new inmate Reb Keane (Zoe Terakes), much to the annoyance of Lou Kelly (Kate Box).

Marie has lost everything and attempted to take her own life, and now that she really has nothing to lose, Susie says her character will be dangerous.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Star Online, Susie said: “I would say quite dangerous.

Marie will be dangerous in the final season, Susie says

“Marie in seasons six and seven, it was all basically all for her. Everything she did was self-centred in a way.

“She was a survivor that she has been her whole life – her backstory was, she was on the streets, she was a prostitute then, over the years, managed to become the madam and become very successful.”

Susie went on: “It does make her dangerous and also – what does she have to lose, as well?

Marie has been protective of Reb since they met

“She really wanted to take her own life and didn’t succeed in that.”

Speaking of what’s to come for her former villain of a character, Susie promised some redemption.

“It’s a true redemptive path that she’s on by the end, in the next 10 episodes, but there’s a few blips in the road there,” she told us, promising big things for Marie.

Susie said she felt ‘flat’ playing Marie due to her bleak prospects

“But at least she does things not for herself. Marie will do things, make decisions not purely based on herself, so she will make decisions that are for the benefit of the greater good – she believes, anyway.

“Her motivation to be Top Dog last season, she didn’t really care about the women, it was all about getting what she wanted.”

Susie said: “People say when you have a breakdown, it’s not really a breakdown it’s a breakthrough.

“So she does change, but hey, she’s still in prison, with not many prospects.”

The actress, who has been a part of Wentworth since 2018, said she struggled throughout the season due to Marie’s bleak future.

“It felt really depressing playing it,” she told us. “It was all good for the work of it and I love being in it, but it made me feel quite flat in lots of ways.”
