Who Wants to Be a Millionaire 'set for major overhaul with lifelines changed'

Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? bosses are reportedly planning a major overhaul of the ITV show.

Producers are hoping to begin filming the Jeremy Clarkson -fronted programme again as early as next month.

However, they’re currently trying to finalise the details of how to safely shoot the series say insiders.

One of the major issues they’re said to be working on is what to do with the Ask The Audience lifeline, as they will likely have to film in an empty studio.

It’s thought this may have to be axed, with the contestant given two Phone A Friend options instead.

A TV source said: “Bosses are keen to get Millionaire back as soon as possible.

“They’re hoping they can get the green light to get Jeremy and contestants back in the studio next month and air in the autumn.”

The insider continued telling The Sun: “The next issue is the audience and, if there isn’t one, then the lifelines.

“They’ve discussed a new lifeline entirely, or giving contestants the opportunity to call two friends for help.”

Bosses previously introduced a new lifeline when Clarkson replaced original host Chris Tarrant – bringing in the Ask The Host option.

Jeremy still hasn’t been able to make anyone a millionaire since he started on the show two years ago amid it’s return to screen.

The show initially debuted with Chris Tarrant in 1998 on ITV and aired up until 2014.

The programme was then revived in May 2018 with Clarkson.

There were only seven episodes scheduled at first, however the show was renewed after the positive response.
