A Place in the Sun buyers so horrified by a property they refuse to step inside

A Place in the Sun appeared to get a bit tense when Laura Hamilton took a couple to a house they wouldn’t put a foot inside.

In Thursday’s episode of the Channel 4 show, that first aired last August, property hunters Karen and Alastair were searching for a slower pace of life in the Dordogne countryside in France.

They had a budget of £175,000 and quite a specific set of demands, preferring a lot of privacy and a location that was as quiet as possible.

While the first property failed they impress them, they did like number two because it had a high-walled garden that was completely private.

Laura was even more hopeful for property number three, a traditional farmhouse valued at £156,881 in Savignac-Lédrier.

But the TV presenter was gobsmacked when Karen and Alastair immediately ruled it out and wouldn’t even look inside.

Laura said: “This is the house. Let me tell you what we are looking at – it’s three bedrooms and it’s currently on the market for just under £157,000.”

Karen just shook her head and said: “No. It’s not a patch on the previous house.”

Gesturing at the neighboring property, Karen added: “And this is my nightmare. People are overlooking you.

“When we look around here, there seem to be hill walkers walking past the garden at regular intervals. No.”

Alastair chipped in: “I’m feeling the same, that there is a real lack of privacy.

“Both with neighbours overlooking you and, as Karen has said, there seems to be some sort of hikers’ pathway and there are hikers going past here every 10 minutes or so.

“Even if this was perfect inside it wouldn’t be for us.”

Laura sounded defeated and told the couple: “I don’t want to flog a dead horse.

“If this is an outright no, then we will leave it here.”

Luckily for Laura, the couple found “love at first sight” with property number five, a four-bed house in St-Hilaire-les-Places.

The couple didn’t hesitate to offer the asking price of £160,055 and bagged it with all the furnishings included.
