A Place in the Sun's Scarlette gutted as 'sheepish' buyers instantly hate villa

Things were tense on A Place in the Sun when Scarlette Douglas admitted it was getting tricky to please a couple with big dreams and a tight budget.

In Monday’s episode of the Channel 4 show, which originally aired in August 2020, the property expert was helping Caitlin and Simon find a holiday home on the Greek island of Paros.

The couple had a budget of £140,000 and wanted at least two bedrooms, sea views, use of a swimming pool, and to be in a location close to shops and restaurants.

Unfortunately, halfway through the search, Scarlette had still only found one place they would consider buying.

She decided to make a “risky” choice with property number four, in Aspro Chorio, because although it was in a more remote location it came with glorious sea views and a decent-sized third bedroom.

The detached villa was on the market for £147,500 and although it was beautiful, Scarlette had her doubts.

She confessed to the camera: “It was a bit of a risk bringing them to a property not closer to amenities… I couldn’t not show it to them.”

The presenter let Caitlin and Simon explore the home by themselves and was shocked at how little time they spent inside.

She remarked: “That was a quick house search.”

Giving his opinion, Simon told her: “Yes, we are feeling a bit sheepish I’m afraid. I can see exactly why you bought us here, it’s lovely, it really is.

“The extra bedroom, the extra space, it just doesn’t make up for the lack of local amenities.”

At this bad news, Scarlette slapped her hands on her head and sighed in exasperation.

She moaned: “No I’ve not done well! Ok listen, we will draw a line under this one, I still have one more opportunity to win you both over.”

The couple did love Scarlette’s fifth option which was a traditional Greek home in Marpissa with a large upstairs terrace and great views across the countryside to the sea.

Unfortunately, their offer was rejected and the pair did not want to go up to the maximum budget of £140,000 because it only had two bedrooms.
