Alan Carr takes swipe at Meghan Markle on Epic Gameshow over 'Queen' nickname

Alan Carr took an unexpected swipe at Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, after the comedian’s Epic Gameshow kicked off Saturday night with a special Bullseye edition.

The show took celebrities Chris Kamara, David Seaman, and Angela Griffin back to the 90s to test their darts skills.

But upon hearing one regular contestant’s nickname, the 44-year-old couldn’t resist making a jibe about the recent controversy surrounding Meghan and Prince Harry’s departure from their life as working royals.

“What’s your nickname?” he asked the contestant, who admitted she was a real darts fan.

“Queen of the Palace,” she said immediately, proud of her epic title.

“I think that’s the nickname Meghan had her heart set on,” Alan teased in response, simultaneously giving the player a warning.

“And look how that turned out,” he joked, eyebrows raised.

The player and her celebrity teammate – former football player and pundit Chris Kamara, guffawed at the risqué joke, but Alan quickly moved on to tease the other players.

It was a game of hilarious quips, and unexpected failures.

In one awkward moment that saw fellow sportsman David Seaman asked to name the person in an image of Kate Middleton on her wedding day in 2011 – but with Alan’s face superimposed over the top – he wasn’t able to come up with the goods.

“It’s Kate!” David laughed, as Alan pressed: “Does she have a second name, this royal?”

“Kate…. Windsor?” David asked, totally puzzled. “I don’t know I don’t know the second name.”

“It’s Kate Middleton,” former Corrie star Angela then chimed in smugly.

Taking to Twitter, one fan asked next to a series of laughing emojis: “Kate Windsor, what?! #EpicGameshow.”

While Chris and Angela were knocked out, David and his fellow quizzer made it all the way to the end.

Alan Carr’s Epic Gameshow continues Saturday nights at 7.30pm on ITV.
