All the stars who had Rugrats cameos – from Amanda Bynes to Kim Cattrall

Nickelodeon Animation Studio brought us popular 90s children’s programme Rugrats in 1991 and the show remains as beloved as ever, 30 years on.

It was even brought back for a grand return to screens earlier this year.

The series focuses on the experiences of a courageous, adventurous one-year-old baby named Tommy Pickles and his group of playmates and other infants and toddlers.

The show starred actors EG Daily, Nancy Cartwright, Cheryl Chase, Cree Summer and Kath Soucie.

But just the show was even more star-studded than that, as this list shows.

Celebrities doing voiceovers for animated shows is a Hollywood tradition at this point, and Rugrats continued with that by featuring a load of stars as wacky characters.

To celebrate the show’s 30th birthday, Daily Star is taking a look back at some of the random celebrities that featured on the beloved children’s show.

Busta Rhymes

Trevor Taheim Smith Jr, otherwise known as Busta Rhymes, appeared on the show as Reptar Wagon.

He first appeared in the The Rugrats Movie that came out in 1998 before appearing in a Season 6 episode a year later, called Wrestling Grandpa/Chuckie Collects.

Best Dad Ever Stu Pickles built the Reptar-shaped wagon, which ended up becoming the kids’ transport to drive in the city and the woods.

Amanda Bynes

Amanda Bynes was practically the face of Nickelodeon so it makes sense that she appeared on one of their biggest shows.

She played Sarah “Taffy” Maynston on nine episodes in Season 8 of the show.

Taffy was the 16-year-old pink haired baby-sitter for the babies who she affectionately called The Minis and the best babysitter the Rugrats have ever had.

Jon Favreau

Iron Man director and star Jon Favreau played Mack Granite in the Season 9 episode Starstruck.

His character mirrors the star’s own life as he was also a Hollywood actor who spots Kimi in a random coffee shop and decides she would be perfect as the little girl in his next movie.

The kids predictably take that very literally and believe she is going to turn into a star in the sky and hilarity ensues.

Kim Cattrall

Before starring as the iconic Samantha Jones on Sex and the City, Kim Cattrall starred as a very important role in the Rugrats, as Melinda Finster, Chuckie’s biological mother.

The mystery of our favourite bespectacled ginger’s mum is finally revealed in Mother’s Day in Season 4.

She appears in the flashback episode to finally reveal the woman who gave birth to Chuckie, who tragically died of a sudden terminal illness shortly after her son was born.

Dan Castellaneta

Dan Castellaneta was famed for playing another famous cartoon character – none other that Homer Simpson himself.

But he also lent his vocal talents to the Rugrats to play the role of Jonathon, Charlotte’s ever suffering assistant.

He starred in six episodes from Season 3 onwards and got to babysit Tommy and co.

The voice actor also had a role as the priest in Rugrats in Paris: The Movie, as well as other minor characters in the main show.

Mo’Nique

Comedian and actress Mo’Nique voiced Aunt Moo in Rugrats Tales from the Crib: Three Jacks and a Beanstalk.

Her character was a cow who was always up for adventure but also exists as a caring mother figure in the life of the Rugrats.

Mo’Nique the cow was adorable in her blue overalls and fetching pink hat, but sadly only featured once, in this straight-to-DVD movie.

Joe Mantegna

Famed Godfathers actor Joe Mantegna voiced Jack Montello in the Season 4 episode Looking for Jack.

He was an alleged Mafia leader and restaurant owner who Angelica befriends accidentally when looking for a “Jack”, when she was supposed to be looking for a car jack.

He kindly helps to fix their car and gives the Rugrats free food.

Joe is better known for lending his voice to Fat Tony in The Simpsons, though.

Alyson Hannigan

The Buffy the Vampire Slayer and How I Met Your Mother alum was in the show for three episodes and played two different characters.

The star voiced Cynthia P.I – Angelica’s fave TV character.

She then returned to play another starlet in another episode.

The Rugrats episodes came while she was starring as Willow on Buffy.

And she leant her voice to The Wild Thornberrys in one episode too.

Ron Glass

Star of Barney Miller and Firefly, Ron Glass voiced Randal Carmichael throughout Season 2.

He was the trophy husband of Lucy and a TV writer for Dummi Bears, conveniently the favourite show of the Rugrats gang.

He had the misguided belief that his acting skills are on par with Will Smith’s.

Actor Ron died at the age of 71 in 2016.

Debbie Reynolds

The late, great Debbie Reynolds played Lulu Pickles, the second wife of Lou Pickles and step-grandmother to Tommy, Angelica and Dill.

She met Grandpa Lou back in the 1940s when he was a soldier and she was a singer, but Lou got shy and ran off.

The two were reunited after he broke his leg and was admitted to the hospital where Lulu was a nurse.

Debbie died in 2016 at the age of 84.
