Anne-Marie says new Little Mix song is about 'walking away from someone' amid Jesy row

Anne-Marie has shown her loyalty to Little Mix as the Jesy Nelson fallout continues.

Taking to Instagram on Thursday evening, she explained to fans the meaning behind her song Kiss My (Uh Oh), which was a collaboration with Little Mix.

Anne-Marie, 30, had written earlier on her Instagram Story that the collaboration has been a long time in the making and that it was during lockdown that she managed to hook up with Little Mix virtually, so that they could add their vocals to her song.

The Essex-born singer said: “This song is a girl power anthem. It’s all about walking away from someone who weren’t treating you well, not giving you what you deserve, not giving you the time and just treating you as a booty call…

Anne-Marie explained the song’s meaning

“Which sometimes can be fun but if you want more and they are not moving to the next stage for you, you got to walk away. Goodbye.”

Her show of solidarity towards Little Mix came after the band’s former member Jesy Nelson faced ‘blackfishing’ accusations which saw her lose over 51,000 followers on Instagram.

As well as Anne-Marie, other celebrities including Little Mix’s Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Jade Thirlwall and Perrie Edwards; MNEK and Paloma Faith have unfollowed Jesy as she faces backlash regarding the video for her debut solo single, Boyz, which features Nicki Minaj.

US rapper Nicki featured on an Instagram Live session with Jesy, and fans were left with a sour taste in their mouths after Jesy failed to defend her ex-bandmate Leigh-Anne Pinnock after Nicki went on a verbal attack.

Nicki called Leigh-Anne “jealous” and a “clown” while Jesy smirked and laughed.

Nicki had blasted Leigh-Anne after a story broke alleging that Leigh-Anne encouraged an influencer to do a video about blackfishing.

The term has been defined as “when non-black people may alter their appearance or take on a characteristic to try to appear black for profit, commercial gain or to raise their profile.”

‘Kiss My (Uh Oh)’ reached number 10 in the UK singles chart during the summer. Meanwhile, the eagerly awaited chart placing of ‘Boyz’ will be revealed later today. (Friday 15 October).
