Ashley Cain takes baby daughter Azaylia back to hospital for 'vital medication'

Ashley Cain has been forced to rush his baby daughter Azaylia back to hospital after one of her tubes failed.

The eight-month-old was diagnosed with a rare form of leukaemia and given just ‘days to live’ by doctors after additional tumours were found on her brain.

But now Ashley has rushed the tot back to hospital to have one of her tubes fixed.

Posting a video to his Instagram story, Ashley wrote: “Had to return to hospital at short notice because we aren’t getting a correct ph from her NG tube.

The footy ace continued: “They can’t just slide another tube down at the moment because of her low platelet level and her tumours.

“So we’re getting an X-Ray to see where the tube is and find out what we can do as currently we can’t feed her or give her vital medication.”

A nasogastric or NG tube delivers food and medication into the stomach, and can be used if a patient can’t eat or requires extra calories.

The ideal pH reading for a tube is 1.5-5 – and anything else should be checked by a medical professional, with nothing administered through the tube until this has been done.

Dad Ashley says in the intimately-filmed video clip: “We’ve just had to come back to hospital now.

“When we were testing Azaylia’s tube, her NG tube, it’s not coming back with the correct pH. That means we can’t feed her down the tube and we can’t put medication down the tube so we’ve got a problem.”

Ashley explained: “They can’t just fit another tube because of her platelet level being so low, and because of the tumours they don’t wanna catch anything on the way down and cause her to bleed out so we’ve had to come into hospital for an X-Ray now to check if the tube’s in the right place.

“If it’s not a clear passage, we’ll get a new tube because it’s urgent that she gets her medication and her tube.

“There’s not an easy day on this journey trust me,” Ashley admitted, signing the video off with his catchphrase encouragement to his baby girl: “Let’s go champ.”

Ashley’s pal ‘Uncle Kane’ travelled 100 miles to spend some of Azaylia’s final moments with her, and has dubbed the tot “the most special and strongest princess in the world”.

Kane Mousah travelled from Manchester to Birmingham to spend time with the family in their current time of need.

In a short clip posted to Instagram, Ashley could be heard saying off-camera: “Visit from uncle Kane today.”

Azaylia is battling acute myeloid leukaemia, and has been spending her final days at home with dad Ashley and mum Safiyya Vorajee.

Ashley has shared parts of his heartbreaking journey on Instagram to keep followers updated, after he was given the devastating news that there was no further treatment doctors could do to save Azaylia.

She has been to and from hospital in the last week for platelet transfusions to attempt to stem her bleeding, after she was ‘crying tears of blood’.

And doting parents Ashley and Safiyya have been applying cold compresses to the tot’s face to try and reduce the swelling around her eyes.

And their efforts have paid off, as Azaylia was able to open her eyes briefly a few days ago.
