BBC Breakfast fans fume as they spot 'missing' show clock in major shake-up

BBC Breakfast fans were left fuming on Tuesday morning, as they spotted one vital element of the programme appeared to be missing.

With hosts Dan Walker and Louise Minchin at the helm, the programme was off to a strong start, discussing the easing of coronavirus restrictions in England and the new rule that nightclub-goers will need to be double-jabbed from autumn.

But it wasn’t enough for many viewers as they spotted the clock, which usually resides in the bottom corner of the screen, had disappeared.

Fans quickly took to social media to question its whereabouts, fuming that their morning routine had been disrupted.

“@mrdanwalker where the heck is the clock?! My morning routine is going off the rails!” one fan quickly posted on Twitter.

Another followed up: “@BBCBreakfast good morning, can we have the clock back please/thank you.”

And a third fan wondered: “@BBCBreakfast where has the clock gone?”, as someone else tweeted: “No clock?! That’s why I put @BBCBreakfast on in the morning! I leave at exactly the same time every morning to get the bus!”

Dan and Louise were quick to reassure viewers that show bosses were doing their utmost to replace the clock, with Dan saying: “We know we’re confusing quite a few people this morning, because we haven’t got our BBC Breakfast clock on the screen.

“We are working on it! There are people furiously running around trying to find it.”

Louise chipped in: “It has disappeared into the ether. But it is 6:28.”

“Nearly!” Dan corrected her, as they watched the clock in the studio tick over. “Now!”

The hosts shared a giggle over the blunder, as Dan himself took to Twitter to calm one viewer who was worried about the clock’s whereabouts.

Dan explained on social media: “The clock has died. We are trying to find it. Fear not… normal service will resume shortly #BBCBreakfast.”

The hosts also briefly struggled to locate weather presenter Carol

“Oh no!” one fan posted in response. “I’m glad I’ve already left the house, that would scupper my morning completely! #NeedTheClock.”

And that wasn’t the only blunder the programme suffered – as Dan and Louise also couldn’t find weather presenter Carol Kirkwood.

“Shall we get the weather?” Dan wondered, but quickly corrected himself: “Oh, no, we can’t get the weather. Carol’s not… Carol’s not there at the moment.”

“What should we….” Louise began, as Dan interjected: “We’ve lost the clock, we’ve lost Carol. What’s going on this morning?”

“We’ve lost Weston-Super-Mare as well,” Louise said. “We were going to talk about that particularly, around the fact that there are weather warnings out there.”

This, thankfully, provided the perfect segue to move the topic along, as the hosts went on to chat instead about the upcoming Olympics.

And Carol was quickly located in the studio, explaining that her clicker had been playing up.

BBC Breakfast airs from 6am every morning on BBC One.
