BBC Breakfast Naga Munchetty still in pain as she battles recurring knee injury

Moments before going to air last year, the 46-year-old BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty fell and dislocated her knee on her way to the BBC Breakfast studio.

Unfortunately the painful injury aggravated previous knee damage that Naga suffered in 2019.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live sports presenter Chris Latchem this week, Naga opened up about her ongoing physical pain.

She said: “I have tendonitis, I have a sore hip, I dislocated my knee a couple of years ago which still gives me gyp.

“And, I certainly noticed I’m not recovering as much as perhaps I did [previously]. It keeps popping in and out.”

Naga says her knee, which she previously dislocated, is still giving her gyp

Naga added: “It’s taking me ages particularly to recover from the tendonitis, a good couple of months.

Naga has previously spoken about her injury, telling presenter Rachel Burden: “Well shall I tell you something that happened to me today?

“I dislocated my knee a couple of years ago. I fell over and dislocated it again – and it’s really embarrassing – this morning right outside the office.”

Naga suffered the injury right outside of the BBC studios

Determined Naga isn’t one to let a challenge defeat her, though. She still manages to go running regularly and plays squash and tennis.

It sounds like she works off any work stress while playing. She has said: “When I play tennis, I hit the ball so it goes over three courts.

“I have no control, whereas squash, I fly into walls, hit the ball hard. You know, stop, start, little whirlwind, but no finesse.”

The presenter also recently opened up about a more personal physical discomfort, saying she fainted twice while having the contraceptive coil fitted.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live she said: “I won’t go into all the details, but my screams were so loud that my husband tried to find out what room I was in to make it stop.

“He said that those in the waiting room hearing my screams looked horrified.”

Naga says her knee “still gives her gyp” years later

Naga added: “I was asked by my doctor halfway through if I wanted to stop, but I was so determined that the pain I’d suffered so far wouldn’t be repeated, so I said, ‘we’ve got this far, let’s finish it’. I fainted twice.”

“The nurse accompanying the doctor had tears in her eyes.”

The presenter had the coil removed a year later and found the procedure just as painful.

“I felt violated, weak and angry,” she said.

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on BBC.
