BBC Breakfast's Carol Kirkwood awkwardly calls colleague wrong name live on air

Forgetting your colleague’s name isn’t the end of the world, but when you do it on live television, the level of embarrassment is obviously heightened.

For weather lady Carol Kirkwood this seemed to be the case on the latest episode of BBC Breakfast after she made an obvious blunder by calling presenter Ben Thompson the wrong name.

Though Ben and his co-host Naga Munchetty appeared on the breakfast show for the first time this week, Carol,58, had previously presented the weather alongside hosts Louise Minchin and Dan Walker.

Due to the change of presenters, Carol, like anybody would, got rather muddled up with names.

On Thursday morning, after she had finished presenting the weather, Carol realised she had made a huge mistake with names and called Ben, Dan.

The weather lady said: “Perhaps on Sunday there will be a bit more cloud around, but again that is open to question. Dan and Naga.”

Quickly realising she had made the error, Carol screeched “Ben!”

She added: “I could of got away with that one.”

Ben responded: “I used to like you Carol.”

The forecaster quipped: “Did you?”

Naga jokingly chimed: “That’s the biggest shock, Ben liking anyone!”

“You’re forgiven,” Ben smirked.

Later on in the programme, broadcaster Naga couldn’t get over the funny blunder and said: “Carol, I have Ben by me here.”

Weather lady Carol has already experienced a few blunders live on air this week.

On Tuesday morning’s episode, Carol seemed to not hear presenter Dan Walker when he asked her question.

While presenting the weather from Odds Farm Park, Carol had several birds chiming in the background.

When former Football focus host Dan asked her about the birds singing behind her, Carol seemed to snub Dan due to technical issues.

Asking about the noisy birds, Dan probed: “Carol are they unusually noisy there, they’ve been tweeting away all morning?”

Carol responded: “Lovely, thanks honey, you too. Take care.”

Lost for words, and appearing rather perplexed, Dan joked: “It actually worked very nicely.”
