BBC Strictly Come Dancing bosses 'cancel wrap party over Covid fears'

Strictly Come Dancing’s wrap party has reportedly been axed over Covid fears.

The finale of the BBC ballroom contest is approaching and in most years the contestants would be looking forward to a festive bash after the winners had lifted the coveted Glitterball trophy.

But according to The Sun, this year’s plans have been scrapped amid the ongoing pandemic.

A source said the Strictly stars would be “gutted” about the do being axed.

“Everyone was looking forward to letting their hair down and celebrating what’s been a closely-fought race,” said the insider.

“It would have also been the first time many of them have been back in the same room since launch, so there would have been plenty to discuss and catch up on.”

This year’s series has been affected by Covid.

When the show kicked off in September there were reports that two of the programme’s professional dancers had refused to be vaccinated.

Then in November, judge Craig Revel Horwood had to miss the show after testing positive for the coronavirus.

Less than two weeks later his fellow panellist Motsi Mabuse had to skip Strictly after she came into close contact with a person who tested positive for Covid.

She posted on social media at the time: “Being double vaccinated and booster as I am, would normally mean exemption from isolation under the ‘close contact’ rules, but unfortunately German EU vaccines are not recognised and neither is my booster in this instance – so I must follow UK Government Guidance and can only return after 30 November 2021 to UK.

“Our health is the most important thing and luckily I have been tested multiple times this week and am negative.”

“I am healthy, I am with my family, that’s what matters. I wish everyone good luck, sending you my love, keep dancing,” she added.
