Ben Shephard explodes as Tipping Point player 'makes history' after winning £20K

Tipping Point is a game of luck, but one contestant was luckier than most during Wednesday’s trip to the neon-lit set in the ITV studios.

In emotional scenes, player Tom went home £20,000 richer after winning the unusual double jackpot, leaving presenter Ben Shephard ecstatic.

He made it into the finale with £2,500 to his name – an impressive sum – but saw his fortune multiplied thanks to a well-timed drop.

Ahead of the win, a nervous Tom admitted: “It’s more nerve-wracking than I ever dreamed. I hardly slept last night.”

Tom isn’t the first player to achieve the elusive double jackpot – last December, a player named Clive managed to take home the fortune for the very first time.

Player Tom was chuffed with his win, which he plans to spend on a trip Down Under

The double jackpot win meant Tom gambled on winning the jackpot counter, and a covetable double counter fell in the same drop.

Dad-of-two Tom was visibly emotional after the win, as he came to terms with the whopping fortune that had befallen him.

The presenter, who divides his time between hosting Tipping Point and Good Morning Britain, exclaimed: “Wow!

“It’s only ever been done once by Clive. You’re joining a very elite group of two.

“You’ve just made a little bit of Tipping Point history! How does it feel.”

Tom isn’t the first player to win £20,000 – but it’s a rare feat

Tom shared his hopes for spending his winnings with Ben, explaining: “I’ve got a lovely wife and two fantastic daughters. I’ve got a wedding coming up… it’s my cousin’s daughter in Australia in November.

“So I think it would probably go towards paying for that.”

“Amazing, to get out there and to be a part of that would be really special,” Ben agreed, adding: “Amazing memories for the family.”

Meanwhile, watching from home, viewers were delighted to see Tom bag the £20K win, as they praised his exemplary game-playing throughout the episode.

Ben was overjoyed for Tom, admitting he’d made a “little bit of Tipping Point history”

One said: “I actually cheered out loud. Well done Tom.”

“Amazing. Well deserved,” added a second, and a third remarked: “That double took its time to fall!! £20,000!! Cheering in my house – so glad I caught that live.”

Ben was similarly moved when Clive won the £20,000 last year, almost welling up before the studio cameras.

At the time, he told the player: “Clive, I have stood in front of this machine over a thousand times. The only time that has happened was when it was on a tray that didn’t get taken.

“Clive, you’ve done it. I can’t believe you have done it!”

Tipping Point airs on weekdays at 4pm on ITV.
