Boy George teases possible cameo in his biopic Karma Chameleon

Boy George has opened up about his long awaited biopic.

The British music icon appeared on The One Show on Thursday to talk about his new single and couldn’t resist teasing the upcoming venture.

Karma Chameleon is slated to start production this summer.

Talking about the casting, Boy said: “There is talks for Danny Mays playing my dad and some really interesting people to play my mum which I was thrilled [with].

“I was like ‘oh my god my mum would be delighted'”.

Asked if he could consider a cameo in the film, the star, whose real name is George O’Dowd, didn’t rule it out.

He replied: “Well I don’t know… Maybe I could play a bouncer.

“So many of them turned away from clubs, imagine I could get my own back.”

Laughing he added: “‘No sorry, you’re not dressed right'”.

In April Boy George put out a global casting call to find an actor to play the lead roll.

Casting initially started back in 2019 but due to the pandemic was delayed.

The Culture Club star previously hinted that a well known singer could take on the role of himself but with the new casting call in place it seems unlikely.

Talking about the project, co-president of Millennium Media who are help produce the film, Jonathan Yunger said: “We’re elated to bring this amazing story to life. Boy George and Culture Club have been an inspiration to so many people.

“Specifically, George’s unapologetic way of being true to himself. He has paved the way for people to live their truth as fearless individuals. This is more relevant today than ever and we are so proud to have Sacha lead the charge on this musical journey.”

Meanwhile, producer Kevin King Templeton added to Deadline: “I look forward to finding a dynamic lead. Having spent time with George over the last four years developing the film, it is important to me that his story gets told in a way that honours him.”
