Bridgerton's Phoebe Dynevor opens up on anxiety after finding fame on racy Netflix show

Phoebe Dynevor reached the dizzy heights of fame last Christmas when popular Netflix series Bridgerton debuted.

Viewers couldn’t get enough of the raunchy take on a period drama as it gained popularity and gave everyone something to talk about during the Covid-19 winter lockdown.

Now the actress – who plays heroine Daphne Bridgerton in the show – has admitted she has struggled with her mental health after finding herself “full of anxiety” since being thrust into the spotlight.

Phoebe, 26, opened up about her experience to Harper’s Bazaar UK and confessed feeling pressure about “letting someone down” is adding to her woes.

She said: “I don’t think anyone knows how to handle that. I worry about everything. I’m full of anxiety. I have a fear of failure, letting someone down, contradicting myself.

“You see what it is for your mental health to be in the public eye.”

In the candid chat, Phoebe also revealed the methods she has employed to help cope with the stresses of fame.

She continued: “I meditate, I have a therapist, I walk every day. There are things I do to ground myself, because it’s quite hectic at the moment.”

Phoebe then admitted that she didn’t quite realise just how much her life would change due to Bridgerton’s success until she found photographers camped outside her front door.

She explained: “I thought it was just another project. I didn’t think anyone was going to care. We were all in lockdown, stuck at home and nothing changed.

“In the first season, people were saying to me, ‘You know this could be huge’, but you don’t ever believe that, and you will never understand what it feels like until it happens to you. It’s quite out-of-body and weird.

And Phoebe says she knows now she can no longer leave the house in her pyjamas, because somebody might take a photo of her.

She added: “It was only when we started being able to leave the house again and there were photographers outside – which was really scary – that I realised if I went out in my pyjamas, there might be someone taking pictures.”

The November issue of Harper’s Bazaar is on sale from October 7.
