Britney Spears' father 'saved her life and from financial ruin' says his lawyer

Britney Spears father Jamie Spears has hit back amid mounting global pressure from the public for the Toxic hitmaker to be freed from her ongoing conservatorship.

Britney, 39, has been in the legal constraint ever since her infamous 2008 meltdown which saw her loose custody of her two sons.

Jamie’s lawyer sat down with Good Morning America to address the speculation after Britney’s welfare came into question thanks to New York Times documentary Framing Britney.

Due to the court system, Britney currently is paying for both legal teams in the high profile battle.

Legal documents show that in 2020 Britney filed for her father to be removed as her conservator – something he is resisting via the courts.

Jamie’s lawyer Vivian Thoreen claims her client has been painted as the “villain” but in reality he saved Britney’s life and from financial ruin.

Thoreen said: “I understand that every story wants to have a villain, but people have it so wrong here.

“This is a story about a fiercely loyal, loving, and dedicated father who rescued his daughter from a life-threatening situation. People were harming her and they were exploiting her.”

She continued: “He has collaborated with her to help her regain custody of her children.

“He has brought her finances back from disaster, and he’s created a safe environment for her to live her life the way she wants, away from the media that cause her so much pain.”

Highlighting how Britney’s financial situation is much stronger now than it was at the time the conservatorship was introduced, she added: “Before the conservatorship, it was reported that Britney was making $40million a year.

“When Jamie stepped in as conservator in 2008, court records show that Britney’s assets were worth $2.8million and she was in debt and facing lawsuits to the tune of millions of dollars.

“So it’s under Jamie’s stewardship for the past 13 years that he’s been able to restore Britney’s finances to where they are today to nearly $60million.”

According to reports Britney is currently refusing to work in any capacity until her father is removed from his current position.

While many fans are calling for a total end to the conservatorship, currently Britney’s lawyer is only calling for those in charge of the legal hold to be changed.

Addressing claims Britney is effectively on strike, Jamie’s lawyer said on US TV: “Britney makes decisions all the time.

“If she wants to perform, if she wants to record an album, if she wants her name and likeness used, or if she just wants to live her life like a normal person, Jamie collaborates with Britney to make that happen.”
