Carol Vorderman teases epic Countdown return amid Rachel Riley's feud with Anne Robinson

Carol Vorderman has made it clear her Countdown past is still dear to her heart as she teased an epic return to the programme.

She also admitted that she keeps a box of letters from the game show in her house for old times’ sake.

Posting to her Instagram Stories on Thursday, Carol snapped a picture of the blue-and-white square letter cards laid out on the table to spell out ‘Countdown’, ‘Springbok’ and ‘Flankers’.

‘Flankers’, of course, refers to the position in rugby union, while a springbok is a variety of antelope found in southern Africa.

Writing alongside the snap, Carol posted: “Did a little Countdown game for a group of fine peeps at the rugby on Saturday @welshrugbyunion.

“Found a box of old letters at home… awwwww. Just sorting some conundrums out here!” accompanied by two cry-laughing emojis.

Carol presented the show from 1982 until 2008, beginning as a mathematician on the programme and going on to act as a full co-host, engaging with both the letter and number games.

In 2009, after Carol’s exit, Rachel Riley stepped up to the plate as the resident arithmetician but, with rumours of a feud going on between her and host Anne Robinson, a return for Carol might not be completely off the cards.

A source claimed to The Mail On Sunday that the tension in the studio is being “openly discussed”, explaining: “Lots of crew are discussing what is going on. Rachel and Susie don’t care much for Anne and her rather grand ways and things have become pretty uncomfortable.”

It came after Anne was said to have muted Rachel’s microphone as Rachel spoke to contestants before filming, as she was “being too loud”.

Sources have also reported that Rachel has threatened to quit the show if issues aren’t resolved, with one claiming to The Sun: “She has moaned about Anne a number of times and even said she would consider walking away from Countdown if the issues weren’t sorted.”

They added, “No one wants to lose Rachel because she brings glamour and fun to the show, as well as being an absolute whizz at maths.”

With Rachel due to give birth soon, it has been confirmed she will return to the Channel 4 show in January when her maternity leave ends.
