Cheryl has been praised for supporting her ex and baby daddy Liam Payne as his engagement to Maya Henry ‘turned sour’.

According to new reports, the Love Made Me Do It songstress split spoke frankly to Liam and encouraged him to be honest with his feelings.

A source claimed to Heat Magazine: “Things had been going wrong with Maya for a while, and the engagement had just made things worse.

“As soon as they started planning the wedding, it went sour, as Liam was feeling the pressure to change a lot of things in his life.

“It was Cheryl, who was telling him that if he wasn’t happy, then he needed to ‘grow a set’ and speak out.

“She saw it as her responsibility to be the voice of reason, as Liam’s choices have a direct impact on Bear.”

Liam recently spoke candidly about his doomed relationship – adding he ends up hurting those he enters into a relationship with.

The Strip That Down singer said: “I feel like more than anything at this point, I’m more disappointed in myself that I keep on hurting people.

“That annoys me. I’ve just not been very good at relationships. And I know what my pattern of things is with relationships at this point.

“I’m just not very good at them so I just need to work on myself before I put myself on to somebody else. That’s what happened with my last relationship.”

He added on Steven Bartlett’s podcast he has “been sober just over a month now” and is focusing on a healthy life style.

Liam previously praised Cheryl for being the best person to co-parent with.

After they split they agreed their son Bear Payne would primarily live with Cheryl.

Liam gushed to Glamour mag: “Cheryl is literally the best person to co-parent with.

“No stress involved. It’s very, very relaxed, and we spend a lot of time on FaceTime.

“And it’s been really lovely, and I’m closer to them than I’ve ever been before, actually, which is really, really nice.

“But bedtime FaceTime can go really well sometimes.”
