Chloe Madeley says parents' marriage gave her warped view of 'normal' romance

Chloe Madeley says her parents spending every minute with each other is not “normal”.

The telly presenter believes her mum Judy Finnigan and dad Richard Madeley living and working together affected her relationships.

She has been married to ex-rugby star James Haskell, 35, since 2018.

Chloe, 33, said: “I grew up watching my parents do everything together. It took me a really long time to realise that’s not normal.”

The fitness trainer added being exposed to such a full-on relationship took “a bit of undoing” in her head.

She said: “I’m really lucky that I found James when I did – because he was a rugby player, so I wasn’t going to come first.”

Chloe and James tied the knot back in December of 2018, saying “I do” in an intimate ceremony in the countryside.

Richard and Judy were among the close-knit circle of guests in attendance, with the father of the bride driving Chloe to the venue in his black Jaguar.

Reflecting on their wedding day, Chloe told Hello! magazine at the time: “When I turned the corner inside the church and saw James standing at the end of the aisle, I immediately felt tears streaming down my face.

“I tried so hard to keep it together but I couldn’t get a grip on it so in the end I just let myself cry.”

Richard had a big part to play in the special day, as Chloe added: “I’m a daddy’s girl and he was so looking forward to driving me to church – a tribute to our father-and-daughter road trips.

“He’s just like me, sentimental and nostalgic. I even caught him watching the film, Father of the Bride.”

Three years later, and the sweethearts are just as happy today, even co-hosting their own podcast – Couples Quarantine with James Haskell and Chloe Madeley.

Launched in 2020, the audio series sees the married couple help listeners with their relationship problems, discussing the reality of locking down with your loved one.

Urging their fans to get creative with their questions, their podcast bio reads: “Don’t be shy – send us your juiciest stories, your other half’s most annoying habits or your biggest dating no-no’s.”
