Corrie star Charlie Condou flogs old clothes to fans as acting work dries up

Former Coronation Street star Charlie Condou is flogging off his old clothes online – after his new play was postponed `again’.

The actor, who played hospital sonographer Marcus Dent in the ITV soap for seven years, told fans he really would like a job’ and will accept anything’.

Charlie, 48, who was doctor Ben Sherwood in Holby City, had been looking forward to a return to theatre work when the coronavirus hit last year (2020).

Since then his play has been put on hold.

While many TV shows – including Corrie – have managed to continue filming with social distancing measures in place most theatres across the UK have remained closed.

They are likely to stay shut until summer as the virus is known to spread quicker indoors.

Dad-of-two Charlie is now flogging off his wardrobe on second-hand designer clothing site website Depop.

He is advertising five sweaters for £245. The most expensive is a `brand new never worn Ralph Lauren 100% cashmere jumper in electric blue’ which the star is selling for £80.

The actor is also trying to shift a burgundy pre-worn vintage Dior’ sweater which he admits has a couple of very small holes’ for £40.

He wrote on the website: “Clearing out my wardrobe!’’

But on Twitter Charlie revealed his job plight as he said: “The play I was due to do has been postponed again so now I really would like a job.

“Will accept anything. Especially roles for middle aged men who dress in loose clothing.“

Adding a link to his clothing sale he said: “Making use of my abundance of free time I’m clearing out my wardrobe.’’

While some fans begged him to return to Corrie one fan suggested: “If you’re worried about parts with tight clothes you could go for the part of attractive, approaching middle aged, nudist. No need to concern yourself with tight clothing then, just worry about cold studios.’’

“I’m in,“ Charlie replied.
