EastEnders hit by furious viewer complaints over Covid vaccination scene

EastEnders has found itself in the firing line after airing a controversial scene about Covid-19 and the rise of anti-vaxxers who oppose all types of the life saving coronavirus vaccine.

The BBC have been hit with a flurry of complaints by irate viewers who thought the section was not suitable for the BBC soap to show.

Earlier this week fans saw red after EastEnders regulars Patrick Truman talk to Suki Panesar about getting the Covid jab.

Patrick, played by Rudolph Walker, was asked why he was in such high spirits to which he revealed had just had his second Covid jab.

Suki was also cheered to find out she was getting her first shot of the vaccine later that day.

She beamed in the Minute Mart: “I’m calling it my superpower. Make me that bit more invincible!.”

However, Karen joined in the conversation and was far from complimentary about the vaccine.

She accused the government of using the public as lab rats and vowed not to take the vaccine.

Karen, played by Lorraine Stanley, said: “Lab rats, that’s what we are! I ain’t having any of that rubbish pumped into me.”

Hitting back, Suki replied: “Some of the best scientists have worked on this.

“And yet you reckon you know better? How’s that PHD working out for you, Karen?”

Twitter was quickly awash with comments from angry viewers who thought they were being deliberately negative towards those who have concerns about the vaccine.

Taking to Twitter, one fan wrote: “You were already on thin f****** ice Karen.”

Another chimed in: “Of course they had to go and make Karen an anti-vaxxer.

“Karen is an anti vaxxer f***s sake’, a third moaned.

The BBC have responded to the backlash standing by their decision to write Covid into their storylines.

A statement from the broadcaster said: “EastEnders, whilst a fictional drama, has a long tradition of reflecting real life and this exchange aimed to reflect the conversations that some people in Britain are having.”
