EastEnders Jake Wood loses out on 70k in epic Beat The Chasers final

Beat The Chasers was back on ITV on Saturday evening with more famous faces looking to take some money away for charity.

The show saw mixed success, with both Dom Joly,53 and Gregg Wallace, 56, managing to bag fund for their chosen charities.

However, one person who just missed out was former EastEnders star Jake Wood, who played for a massive £70k.

He got off to a good start in his cash builder and built up £3,000 before getting to choose how many chasers to face.

Instead of opting for an easy ride, he took on all five of the spin-off show’s Chasers and played for the big money.

However, he lost it part way through the final when he tripped up on one question, which saw his efforts fall to pieces.

And soon enough, he ran out of his allotted time meaning the money didn’t end up in his charity’s pocket.

Jenny ‘The Vixen’ Ryan, 39, said: “You were doing so well and as soon as you got a question wrong you went to pieces.”

Many fans on Twitter commented on the star’s beard, with a very different look to his alter-ego Max Branning

“You needed another 50p put in the gas meter,” joked Mark Labbett, 55.

Before he kicked off his game, host Bradley Walsh, 60, admitted he remembered seeing Jake on a TV ad years back.

“I remember you pre-EastEnders, not in The Bill,” before going on to quiz the soap star about his appearances in advertisements.

Bradley added: “I might be wrong but I saw an actor once do an advert… you were sitting eating a bowl of cereals?”

Jake explained he had been featured in a Pot Noodle commercial way before his soap days.

“That’s right, amazing you remember that!” the contestant commented.

His former co-star Tanya Franks, who plays Rainie Highway on the soap, sent a message of support Jake’s way on Twitter.

She said: “Fabulous @mrjakedwood supporting @AlzResearchUK on #BeatTheChasers !! Cracking mate, cracking.”

One person who did get lucky tonight was MasterChef’s Gregg, who took away a huge £50k at the end of the show.

Gregg couldn’t believe he’d managed to bag the prize money, saying: “You’re kidding me! I’m at the end now?”

He also revealed his tactic which helped him win, explaining: “People just stare at the floor and they don’t get distracted.”

Chaser Jenny Ryan soon congratulated him: “You were there playing your own game throughout that, it didn’t matter what we were doing up here!”
