Emma Willis shuts down vile trolls and refuses to 'suppress' son's dress sense

Emma Willis has spoken out against those who have criticised her son’s dress sense, firmly putting any close-minded online trolls in their place.

The Voice UK host, 44, pointed out her son Ace is an “individual” who can dress how he pleases, putting his happiness first.

Emma’s comments come after she shared a photo of the nine-year-old wearing a pink T-shirt, with his blonde hair having grown to his shoulders.

Baffled by the comments certain trolls had made about her son’s appearance, Emma shut down the gender stereotyping and defended his right to dress as he wishes.

In an interview with Fabulous magazine, she said: “I’m so protective of my kids and this was just a young boy expressing himself the way he wants to.

“I thought: ‘Did you not watch ’80s dance movies? All the boys wore crop tops and it was cool!

Emma also explained she has no desire to “suppress” Ace, questioning the logic behind stifling a young child’s sense of creativity.

She added: “He is very individual, he dresses the way he wants and he’s really happy doing that. Why would I try to suppress that?”

The TV personality added the comments she receives online can make “the Hulk want to come out and scream at the world,” as her frustration mounts.

She told the publication: “So it did massively make me start thinking about stereotyping and how bonkers it is that a boy, just because he has long hair and is wearing pink, is mistaken for a girl.”

Emma and her husband Matt Willis, of Busted fame, married in 2008, walking down the aisle three years after they first got together.

Living together in a recently renovated Hertfordshire home, the couple shares three children – Isabelle, 11, Ace, and Trixie, four.

Emma has spoken out against gender labelling in the past, taking an inclusive and respectful approach to raising her children.

Last October, during an appearance on Good Morning Britain, the mum-of-three addressed the cruel trolling she’d received after sharing an image of Ace online.

Revealing she employed the “block button” to shut down any abuse, she told the GMB hosts: “He loves colour, he’s always had long hair.

“He’s a very free and open-minded boy who doesn’t really, well, he’s like ‘why do I have to dress in green, blue or grey if I like pink, red, purple?’

“I’ve tried to raise him as a very open-minded young boy.”
