Emmerdale star Patricia Jones 'to join Coronation Street cast for mystery role'

Former Byker Grove and Emmerdale star Patricia Jones has reportedly joined the Coronation Street cast.

The actress took to Twitter to confirm she is starring in the role.

In a tweet, she wrote: “Our lovely @PatriciaJones54 has completed filming a guest role on @itvcorrie #CoronationStreet”

Patricia added: “Thank you @BBAteam I had the best time in Weatherfield. xx”

It is currently unknown what role Patricia, who is known for playing Flora McKay’s step-mother, Jean, in Byker Grove from 1993 to 1997, will be cast as in the soap.

The actress has also played a character called Emily in Emmerdale in 2016.

On the soap, Patricia’s Emmerdale character attended a support group in the village for people suffering from dementia.

She appeared alongside her husband Roger who suffered from the condition.

Emily panicked when her husband wandered off.

He was later discovered by fellow dementia sufferer Ashley Thomas, who walked him back.

Emily also discussed with Ashley Thomas and Laurel later in the episode that there were good days and bad days with the condition.

In December Ashley’s father Sandy Thomas called Emily and asked her to speak with Laurel who was struggling with the idea of having to care for Ashley.

Emily reassured Laurel that a care assistant could help.

Patricia previously appeared on Coronation Street in 2018 as a character called Laura, according to IMDB.

In Wednesday’s Coronation Street episode, peaceful protests against the demolition of the street turned sour resulting in Abi Franklin being arrested.

Abi’s arrest came after she accidentally threw her megaphone at Craig Tinker.

Fans of the soap reckon Faye’s secret could be the only key to taking Ray Crosby, who is behind the demolition plans, down.

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30pm and 8:30pm on ITV
