Emmerdale’s Lisa Riley gets first ever tattoo after 'chickening out' three times

Lisa Riley has gotten inked for the first time ever, aged 45.

The Emmerdale actress, best known for her on-screen portrayal of Mandy Dingle, shared the news that she finally got her first tattoo after ‘chickening out’ several times before.

Taking to Instagram, Lisa posted a pic of her beaming beside her tattoo artist, Hannah Elizabeth Gehrke from Red Tattoo and Piercing parlour in Leeds.

And in another snap, Lisa could be seen with her foot propped up on a table while Hannah got to work inking the design on the side of her arch.

Lisa wrote alongside the photoset: “I DID IT!!!

“Today after five years of putting it off. I had my FIRST TATTOO done… by the superbly talented @gerktattoos @redtattooleeds she’s UNBELIEVABLE.

“A gorgeous person, crazy brilliant, when someone’s talented and lovely. I knew I was in safe hands.”

The soap star continued: “The tattoo looks fantastic, everything I imagined and so much more. THANK YOU.”

It comes after Lisa admitted she “chickened out” of going under the needle three times before while starring as tattoo artist Tina Finch in the BBC drama Age Before Beauty in 2018.

She said at the time: “I have been to the tattoo parlour three times and chickened out.

“I do want one on my foot and I will probably get it one day, but the idea of it being forever freaks me out ever so slightly,” she confessed.

Lisa’s fans and fellow stars were quick to congratulate her on getting over her fear, with Michelle Hardwick, who played Vanessa Woodfield in Emmerdale, commenting: “Yes Lisa!!! I’m so tempted to get one!”

Someone else penned: “Hell yeah! Welcome to the gang!”

“One of many – it is addictive! Well done!” another fan congratulated.

Lisa still hasn’t showed her fans what her tattoo is actually of, leaving many of her 175,000 followers clamouring to find out.

One urged: “Ooh can’t wait to see!”, as someone else posted: “Good for you Lisa! Can’t wait to see it!!!”

Speaking in 2018 about the difficulties of playing a tattoo artist on-screen, Lisa said: “Doing the real tattoo on someone was a challenge.”

She sat in with a female tattooist for a day as research for the part, explaining: “When I was doing it on set we had the foot peddle, the ink and the noise, everything except the needle.”

Lisa added: “We had a supporting actress come in one day to have a beauty treatment done, which was Tina tattooing her eyebrows.”

“Pre-tattoo, as prep on the day, you have this cream that looks like black hair mousse put on your brows so for a short while she looked a little like Freddie Mercury!”
