Epic Gameshow fans frustrated as they beg Alan Carr to say iconic catchphrase

Fans of Alan Carr’s Epic Gameshow were left distracted on Saturday night by Alan’s apparent refusal to say the show’s iconic catchphrase.

The legendary game show was originally aired in the 80s, and was based on American show Strike It Rich.

Hosted by Michael Barrymore, the show included the phrase ‘What is a hot spot not?’ ‘A good spot!’ as players attempted to avoid the notorious hot spots in order to progress and win prizes.

And viewers came out in force to beg Alan to give in and finally say the iconic phrase, with one writing on Twitter: “Alan hasn’t done the catchphrase yet. I’ve been sat here for half an hour waiting to shout ‘not a good spot!’.”

Another puzzled fan wrote: “Go on Alan, say it… What is a hot spot not?”

“What’s a hot spot not?” another asked. “Not a good spot!”

“WHAT’S A HOT SPOT NOT?” another shouted.

And finally, during the last segment of the show, as Jamie and Craig attempted to score a tech bundle, he finally let the phrase slip.

“What’s a hot spot not?” Alan asked.

The contestants chimed in: “Not a good spot!”

“Well remembered!” Alan congratulated them.

People were clearly enjoying the shot of nostalgia from the classic game show, with one sharing: “OMG watching Strike It Lucky with my mum – reminds me of being a kid!”

Another penned: “I live for nostalgia, and Alan Carr is superb at hosting.”

Others were more distracted by the retro music, with one adding: “Somehow that Strike It Lucky theme tune sounds great, even 30-odd years later. And they haven’t changed it all – it’s the original music.”

Someone else wasn’t so sure, typing: “I like this show, however I don’t like the music in it at all it’s like I’m living in the 80s.”

And a third wrote: “It’s very irritating that the music keeps playing.”

There’s plenty more nostalgia where that came from – it was recently announced that Blankety Blank will make a comeback on BBC One, hosted by Bradley Walsh.

Commenting on his new role after hosting a one-off Christmas special last year, Bradley said: “I laughed so much when I was filming Blankety Blank – so when they asked if I’d be up for doing a series, I jumped at the chance.”

The Chase presenter opened up to RadioTimes about following in the footsteps of his hero, Les Dawson.

He said: “I’m not feeling the pressure so much. [It’s] just the fact that I love a bit of nostalgic telly and to follow in the footsteps of Sir Terry Wogan and one of my heroes Les Dawson, having worked on the show as a studio warm-up for Les a few times, it’s a thrill for me.”
