GMB's Adil Ray makes awkward Piers Morgan joke as he returns to ITV show

Adil Ray appeared to make a cheeky dig at Piers Morgan during his return to Good Morning Britain on Thursday.

The 46-year-old comedian and actor returned to the ITV breakfast on Thursday for the first time since Piers’ shock exit.

Former newspaper editor Piers quit GMB earlier this month after he was refused to apologise over his comments surrounding Meghan Markle following her bombshell Oprah Winfrey interview with Prince Harry.

Comedian Adil couldn’t help but make a cheeky jibe at the GMB drama at the start of the episode.

He said: “Morning, it’s just gone half past six. Welcome to the show. Great to be back.”

Susanna, 50, replied: “Welcome back”

“Have I missed anything?” Adil asked.

After an awkward pause, Susanna eventually replied: “A few things.”

He responded: “Have I? Oh OK” before making a face towards the camera.

Susanna swiftly moved on the conversation by chatting to co-star Kate Garraway about her heartbreaking ITV documentary.

Adil took to Twitter on Tuesday to confirm his return to Good Morning Britain.

Piers Morgan insinuates Meghan Markle is lying over wedding claim as licence emerges

He penned: “I’m back hosting @GMB for a day on Thursday with @susannareid100. Got myself a new suit. See you Thursday Britain. #goodmorningbritain.”

The TV star posted a picture of an eccentric suit made from Union Jack flags alongside his message.

Adil’s message is believed to be a dig from something that happened on a rival show last week.

Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick appeared on BBC Breakfast with a huge Union Jack in the background, leading to a lot of reactions online.

There has been plenty of talk about who is going to be Piers Morgan’s replacement on Good Morning Britain.

The Mirror recently reported that the latest bookies’ odds put Adil in Piers’ presenting seat on the programme.

Adil is leading the race to the hosting top spot with odds of 2/1, ahead of Ben Shephard (5/2) and Ranvir Singh (7/2).

Alex Apati for Ladbrokes told the publication: “Adil Ray is leading the way in the race to replace Piers on GMB, although no less than five names are priced at 4/1 or shorter as things stand.”

Adil, who appeared in Citizen Khan, has hosted the programme on a number of occasions when Piers has been off and during the school holidays.

Like Piers, Adil isn’t one to shy away from a debate and isn’t afraid to voice his opinions on the breakfast show.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am
