Hilary Duff hits back at trolls who shame her for piercing baby daughter’s ears

Actress Hilary Duff has faced backlash after piercing her baby daughter’s ears.

In March this year, the 34-year-old gave birth to her third child, and the Lizzie McGuire star has recently shared an adorable snap of her infant daughter wearing dungarees.

But fans were quick to spot that her ears were pierced and she faced serious backlash.

She captioned the cute picture: “Yes! I pierced her ears today.”

Expecting the criticism she added to her post: “Can’t wait for the internet to call me a child abuser….again. Lesss go.”

The former Disney actress has faced “mum shaming” before, after piercing Banks, three, ears when she was at the time eight months old.

Hilary shares Banks and Mae with singer-songwriter Matthew Koma.

The couple worked together on her Breath In, Breath Out album in 2015.

She also has a son Luca, who was born in 2012 and she shares with ex-husband Mike Comrie.

In 2019, Hilary was accused of “causing unnecessary pair” to her daughter and fans it was “child abuse” hence why the star this time around uses the word, “again” in her caption.

The view of piercing a child’s ears has been left very divided as some believe it can “traumatise” a baby but others don’t believe it to be an issue.

In an interview with Yahoo! Life, Hilary reflected on being trolled as a parent and growing tough skin.

She said: “I’m so used to dodging the comments or the judgment, that I don’t realise.

“Like, you just get a tough skin and you don’t realise how much it actually affects you.

“I don’t comment on other people’s posts like that, so I don’t understand, but I guess it’s just a need for attention or whatever.

“It’s hard not to take it personally.”

Like most the actress said your first reaction is to be “defensive” but then remembered how “that’s not how everyone feels.”

She added: “That person’s a keyboard gangster who just needs to be heard or seen.”
