Inside Eminem's relationship with his kids – doppelganger, chart-toppers and adoption

Eminem, real name Marshall Bruce Mathers III had a tough upbringing but has always done his best to try and make sure his children have a better life.

The rapper is the father to three children, Hailie Jade Scott, Alaina Marie Mathers and Stevie Mathers.

Despite Eminem’s love for keeping a low profile, he can’t seem to help talking about his daughters in his songs.

The musician has released over 22 songs in which he makes references to his daughters, including Going Through Changes and When I’m Gone.

He shares all three of his kids with ex-wife Kimberley Anne Scott.

The on-again off-again couple have had a rocky relationship over the years meeting in the late 90s, and tying the knot in 1999, but then divorcing just two years later.

They then remarried in 2006 but Eminem filed for divorce a year later, agreeing joint custody of Hailie.

In his song Going Through Changes, Eminem raps: “Hailie, this one is for you, Whitney and Alaina too / I still love your mother, that’ll never change.”

For Eminem’s 49th birthday we looked at his relationship with his three kids, and who they grew up to be.

She’s also been the inspiration for many of Eminem’s tracks, most explicitly, Hailie’s Song, in which he says she kept him from going “crazy”.

The lyrics include: “My baby girl (girl) (Hailie laughs) keeps gettin’ older (der) / I watch her grow up with pride”.

Her vocals are featured in the track My Dad’s Gone Crazy.

Alaina is the is the biological daughter of Kim’s twin sister Dawn Scott.

She was adopted at a young age by Eminem and Kim while Dawn struggled with substance abuse, which eventually led to her fatal overdose in 2016.

While technically, Eminem’s niece, the pair have a special bond and act like father and daughter.

Eminem told Rolling Stone: “My niece has been a part of my life ever since she was born.

“Me and Kim pretty much had her, she’d live with us wherever we was at.”

In his 2004 song Mockingbird, Eminem raps about his bond with Alaina, saying: “Lainey, uncle’s crazy ain’t he, yeah but he loves you girl and you better know it.”

He later adds: “Lainey I’m talking to you too, Daddy’s still here. I like the sound of that, yeah, it’s got a ring to it, don’t it?”
