James Corden admits he looks like 'a p****' after agreeing to major film role

James Corden has admitted he looked like a “p***k” in the flop film musical Cats.

The Gavin And Stacey star said that he mistakenly agreed to join the big-screen version of the West End hit because he could not clearly hear the offer over the phone.

Corden insists that he struggled to get reception at CBS Studios in Los Angeles, which was where he took the call with the offer for the role.

The host of the Late Late Show in the US claimed he often experiences poor reception there – and that is why he lost the “middle part” of his conversation about the critically panned Andrew Lloyd Webber movie.

Talking about being “in the elevator and not knowing when it will cut out,” he said.

“I always try to talk just before that bit and I go ‘yeah go on’ – and you miss about five seconds of the conversation and it is fine.

“All I heard was Judi Dench, Ian McKellen.

“And what I missed was ‘you are going to be dressed like a cat, you are gonna dance around looking like a p***k.’

“Idris Elba, Taylor Swift – yeah, I’m in. I will do it. Damn that elevator.”

Critics loathed the 2019 movie, slamming the performances, costumes and the presentation despite its star-studded cast.

The presenter previously admitted he had no plans to see the film, despite being one of its leading stars.

“I can’t imagine I’ll see it,” Corden told The New Yorker in January.

“It’s important to say I had the best time making it. At some point you have to go, How am I going to judge my own experience? Am I only going to have enjoyed something if it was successful?”

Though James knocked the film, he did defend his character, Bustopher Jones, and the body positive image the cat reinforces.

He added: “He’s going, ‘I’m the greatest! I’m big and I’m fat and I live the best life! I eat everything! It’s incredible.’”
